ENGLISH PAPER PIECING by Hand (A hand piecing technique)
You will learn the basics of the English paper-piecing technique by making small candy favor cups using paper foundation pieces. English paper-piecing is an accurate hand assembly method and is very easy using pre-cut paper pieces. This is a project that can travel with you anywhere. You will learn to cut the fabric, baste & assemble the pieces. No machine needed! We even provide the kit, so very few supplies are needed.

VERY BEGINNER QUILT CLASS featuring the DANCE PARTNERS PATTERN

A New Instructor and a New Pattern for the Beginner Class! Check out this pattern! It looks hard, but it’s not. This beginner’s class will introduce you to rotary cutting, piecing blocks with a 1/4” seam, adding borders, assembling the layers, quilting and binding. As a bonus, this pattern is assembled in rows and then you will learn a quick technique to give it an “on point” look. If you ever wanted to learn to quilt this is the class for you! Knowledge of your machine is needed. This class is designed to make a crib size quilt in order to learn the techniques within the scheduled time. A larger size is NOT recommended.

FUN & DONE -new quilt-as-you-go technique

This is a new quilt-as-you-go technique that Eileen spotted at market in May. When making the fun & done patterns, you use the Batting Buddy ruler to cut the batting and backing. The unique feature of this quilt is that the backing becomes your sashing and binding. All sewing is done on the machine, even the binding. This class is designed to make a crib size quilt in order to learn the technique within the scheduled time. A larger size is NOT recommended.

BEGINNER MACHINE QUILTING 101

One Day Marathon Session!

You’ve got your quilt pieced – now what do you do? Learn the basics of machine quilting on your home sewing machine. The first session will guide you through straight-line and stitch-in-the-ditch using a walking foot, as well as getting started on free-motion quilting such as stippling and loops. Practice time in between classes and the second session will continue with more advanced free-motion quilting including flowers and leaves, hearts and stars. Using patterns and quilting designs as well as marking your quilt top will also be covered. You will take home at least two small practice pieces filled with your machine quilting and handouts of quilt designs to try.

REDWORK by MACHINE

This quicker & easier method of producing the labor intensive traditional red work done by hand is now done on your home sewing machine without the need for an embroidery machine. A form of thread painting, this is a great technique to add a little red work to any plain block. Machine must be able drop feed dogs and do free motion. Free pattern included with the class fee!

HOW TO ALTER YOUR FABRIC COLOR BY DISCHARGING

This simple technique will have you playing with fabric color. Fabric discharging is taking away the dye from the fabric to see the color beneath. Some fabric will discharge color better than others, but this is always a surprise waiting for you! You can achieve your own batik look doing this technique. This is a fun way to play with scraps for art quilts or wall hangings.

HAND QUILTING 101 - BEGINNERS

Learn to finish your quilt the old-fashioned way – hand quilt it! In this “hurry-up” world, hand quilting can be a great stress reliever, and it will add beauty and value to your quilts. Hand quilting is a skill you will enjoy using for years and one that can be passed on to new quilters in the future. Learn about the tools of hand quilting – needles, thimbles, hoops, thread, etc. Marking your quilt tops and using patterns, stencils and various marking methods will be covered in this class as well. You will take home a practice piece of your hand quilting as well as handouts of quilt designs.
